Intercom Announces I-7595/G Optical Disk Archive

Intercom a 25 year-old company, with offices in Virginia and Florida, is a worldwide player in storage products. Recognizing the growth in channel and storage products for the information enterprise, Intercom has developed, sold and installed products for the IBM mainframe environment.

Some of the channel products include the channel interface for large printers (OCE and Xerox), a significant SCSI Switch business and Channel to SCSI interfaces.

The baseline storage product for the company is the I-5590 Controller. This product provides the only mixed media controller of its type on the market. It is best described as a Universal Removable Media Controller, that is both backward and forward compatible. In fact the 5990 supports a variety of drive types including 3490 (36-Track, 3590 (128 and 256 Track), LTO, DLT, AIT, DVD and others. We can also attach the latest technology such as 256-track drives and optical devices, as well as non-standard devices such as DVD, DLT, AIT, LTO, CD, 8mm and more. When attached to a System 390, they all appear as devices supported by the OS390 Operating System. The controller also serves as the basis for our Virtual Storage product suite.

With the market base in Europe now well developed the company has embarked on a plan to penetrate the US market. This plan is elegant in its simplicity, to specialize in a market niche ignored by the dominant providers, yet one that is a de-facto standard, for data exchange. Once we have penetrated this niche we will be able to expand the customer base with additional products requiring more sophisticated sales and support.
