Intercom Announces I-7595/G Optical Disk Archive
Intercom Computer Systems today announced general availability of their I-7595 Optical Library. The I-7595/G is plug compatible with IBM’s 3995, but takes advantage of the new drive technology and Optical Library features.
The I-7595/G optical mass storage system for mainframe users, is based upon the well proven 5 ¼” optical disk technology. It is IBM 3490 and 3995 compatible, supporting all magnetic tape applications and IBM’s Object Access Method (OAM). The I-7595 provides a cost-effective way to improve System Managed Storage (SMS), document handling, work flow processing, backup and archiving.
The I-7595 offers significant advantages supporting from 2 to 12 disk drives and 64 to 638 Optical Disks with a storage capacity of .58 to 5.8 Terabytes of data. The I-7595 utilizes the new 9.1GB Optical media, dramatically increasing storage density in a library that features a dual cartridge picker, 2 to 12 Optical Drives, Barcode Support, redundant power supplies and “Hot Swappable” drives for maximum up-time.
Operating system support includes IBM’s z/OS, OS/390, MVS, VM and VSE. The
I-7595 also supports IBM’s Object Access Method (OAM) and application packages such as DFSMS, Image Plus, Domino Document Manager and others. Connectivity is provided by up to 8 ESCON or Block Multiplex Channels with data rates of 17MB/s and 4.5MB/s respectively.
As an option, customers may utilize the I-7595 in IBM 3490E magnetic tape compatibility mode providing 10 to 100 times faster access to particular data files over traditional tape systems.
For customers requiring WORM (Write Once Read Many), the I-7595 supports LIMDOW direct overwrite as well as continuous composite WORM.
